BLOCK ***

TOM VISCOUNT

Another from the much-ballyhooed Chapel Hill, North Carolina crowd (Ben Folds Five, Squirrel Nut Zippers, etc.). Block move to NYC to do some heavy-duty subway busking, which resulted in the indie recording Lead Me Not into Penn Station. College radio ate it up, leading to gigs with Bob Mould, They Might Be Giants, and other alternative pioneers. Now, Alanis Morissette‚s producer, Glen Ballard, is using a Block tune for the sound track to Clubland, a film he scripted. Viscount‚s Red Cross volunteerism, love of roads less traveled, and probably some genetically transferred sensitivity combine to render his songs indescribably and universally empathetic. With Joe King. Mint. 6010 W. Pico Blvd. L.A.: (213)954-9630.
